獅子舞の由来・Lion Dance

Once upon a time, there was a small village in China. One year, on the eve of the Lunar New Year, bandits came to the village. They took away/looted the villagers’ possessions—their treasure, money and food. The villagers were scared so they ran away.

The villagers thought of a plan. The plan was to make lion costumes out of bamboo—for the frame—and paper—to cover the frame. Then, they put on the costume and went back to the village. They danced and made loud noises with pots and pans in the costumes. The bandits were surprised at the loud noise and the scary dance so they ran away.

The villagers thought that lion dance brought good luck for them. So, whenever they had a celebration, they performed the lion dance. This custom has continued till now.
