School Festival

There is a festival in school tomorrow.

There are twenty-seven groups. In each group, there are 4-5 students from each grade, grade 1 to grade 6. Additionally, there are 4 sub-groups in each group--A-1, A-2, B-1 and B-2. I am in group B-1.

In the festival, we can play twenty-seven different games. We, the grade 6 students, came up with and set up the games in our own groups.

During the festival, groups A-1 and A-2 can go to the different stations to play, first. While groups A-1 and A-2 are playing, groups B-1 and B-2 will man the stations. After about an hour, there will be a changeover.

I am not looking forward to it because I am the only grade 6 student in my group and I have to take care of the younger students from the other grades who are in my group ):

Sports Day Practice

Diary: 22nd June 2015

My school has Sports Day every year in September

The primary 6 students are going to do group gymnastics, kibasen, a race, and some other events.

First, we will do kibasen. There are 4 people at the bottom. They are carrying 1 person. The person on top is wearing a cap. If you take his cap, you get a point and that team is out.

After kibasen, we will have a race, some other events, and lunch.

After lunch, we will have group gymnastics. For group gymnastics, we have a routine. In the routine, we have big pyramids. We are practising group gymnastics now in P.E. class.

It is tiring but we are looking forward to it.

獅子舞の由来・Lion Dance

Once upon a time, there was a small village in China. One year, on the eve of the Lunar New Year, bandits came to the village. They took away/looted the villagers’ possessions—their treasure, money and food. The villagers were scared so they ran away.

The villagers thought of a plan. The plan was to make lion costumes out of bamboo—for the frame—and paper—to cover the frame. Then, they put on the costume and went back to the village. They danced and made loud noises with pots and pans in the costumes. The bandits were surprised at the loud noise and the scary dance so they ran away.

The villagers thought that lion dance brought good luck for them. So, whenever they had a celebration, they performed the lion dance. This custom has continued till now.

一ヶ月集中コースに対しての感想

A student came from Japan to study English for one month. She took the intensive course, having lessons 3 times a week. Below are her comments on our intensive course.

It's been a long time since I last learned English. It was fun.

I want to learn more, so I will continue studying English even when I go back to Japan.

Student's Comments

I've been studying English at this school for 1 year. I can learn English the fun and useful way because classes are conducted to suit our needs.

Teachers not only teach but help us with our personal troubles and hold events like lunch or dinner parties so I feel at home. And I think it's good for workers to be able to take classes on weekends.

I'm very satisfied with my choice of studying here.

An Adaptation of a Famous Novel

Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory

Once upon a time, there was a place called Lolly Land. One day, I wanted a lolly pop so I went to the candy store near my house to buy one. When I tore open the wrapper, a golden ticket suddenly fell out. With this ticket, I could go to Willy Wonka's Chocolate factory!!

At the factory gates, I looked to my left and saw a girl. She was small. Her face was cute but her teeth were pink because she was eating 5 strawberry lolly pops at the same time. She had shoulder length, pink, curly hair. She was wearing a neon pink T-shirt, skirt and heels. She had a pink bag, a pink bow, many pink accessories and even her nails were pink. While I was looking at her, she finished the lolly pops and put the sticks into her bag.

I looked to my right and saw a boy. He was tall and his face was handsome but he was fat because he loved sweets! He had hair that looked like a lolly pop because his favourite sweet was lolly pop! His hair colour was colourful! He was wearing a Hawaiian shirt, jeans and sport shoes. He had a small rainbow bag because he loved colours.
Inside The Chocolate Room
First, I saw a chocolate river and the chocolate waterfall. Next to it there was a milk River and the milk waterfall too. At the back part of the milk and Chocolate River, they mixed together and there was a milk chocolate river!!
Around the river there were a lot of trees. The trunks and branches were made from melting chocolate and the leaves were made from candy and gummies. There were chickens made out of marshmallows and the marshmallow chickens eggs were marshmallows too!!
I grabbed some marshmallows and I dipped them into the chocolate and ate them. Hawaiian boy was surfing happily in the milk river with a chocolate surfboard.
Then, pink went to pet a marshmallow chicken because she liked chickens. While she was petting the chicken, I accidentally fell into the chocolate river and swam to the cold milk chocolate river. Right after I reached the milk chocolate river, the chicken suddenly pecked Pink. Pink cried because the chicken pecked her so I got up from the milk chocolate river and I went to Pink to comfort her.
At the same time, the chocolate surfboard hit a rock made out of chocolate and broke. Hawaiian boy couldn't swim so he sank into the river. He was sinking slowly so the chickens went to him and helped him by pushing the melting branches of the chocolate trees for him to hold onto.
Everybody was safe in the end and we looked at each other and smiled.
~ The End ~

Miss Harada studied in an International School in Hong Kong when she was a child. After she returned to Japan, her family found that she started to forget how to use English. Now that they are in Singapore, we work on polishing her grammar, improving her vocabulary and encouraging creative writing and conversation.
